A Wish for 2013

I am not one for making New Year’s resolutions. The reason–I never keep them. But, I do believe in making wishes.

What if . . .

At exactly midnight on New Year’s Eve, you receive an email with the subject line “Open Immediately.” The email is from your future self indicating that you’ve been granted ONE wish. How would you reply? Here’s how I would respond:

Dear Anka,

Tomorrow is a NEW dawn, a NEW day, a NEW life for us all. Let the PAST be the past at last. That, and if possible, make ALL chocolate have zero calories.

Love, Me

Each year people from around the globe actually do write out their wishes for the New Year. They record wishes on a piece of confetti which flutters down onto the crowd gathered in Times Square. Since I will not be there to see these wishes fall from the sky or experience the splendor of the Big Apple drop in New York, I wanted to create my own virtual wishing wall.

There’s no reason we can’t participate in this annual tradition together, right?

Besides making a virtual wish, I will also be counting down to my New Year’s Eve kiss with Renaissance Man. I become so giddy around midnight because I know the old year will soon be leaving. I am looking forward to a new dawn. Tomorrow is my rebirth. Cheers to blank pages and fresh starts.

HAPPY NEW YEAR’S kit kats! May your glasses overflow with sparkling bubbly and springs of HOPE. Love you all soooo much! Good times will be had this coming year!

  1. A very timely post as I just painted a wall black with blackboard paint so I can write a daily To Do list that I can’t lose. Maybe I should write my wishes on it instead. Have a great New Year

  4. You know chocolate is actually good for you, right? There was this study… Wait, I’ll find it for you: and There. Happy New Year. It was a pleasure to “meet” you in 2012, and I look forward to many future stimulating blog interactions in 2013. xoxo Jane

    • Thanks for the link to a study that lends support to my chocolate addiction. I can always count on you, Jane! Have a wonderful New Year’s Eve. Hope our three year old sons don’t run us into the ground before midnight. Cheers my friend!

  5. I love the concept of wishes rather than resolutions! My wish is selfish–is that okay?

    • I think wishes/prayers have to be geared towards oneself from time to time. We are all entitled to be sprinkled with love and grace. And, from what I’ve read on your blog, you are on the brink of a HUGE dream come true. I haven’t had the chance to stop by yet. But I wanted to congratulate on the release of “Ripple.” May blessing after blessing be poured out on you in this coming year, El!

      • Thanks Anka. Much appreciated, believe me! Normally, I categorize my health as “superior” but this setback is taking a long time to recover from. I guess I needed to slooooww down.
